This is followed by Kajari Teej also known as 'Badi Teej', held after fifteen days of Hariyali Teej. The third type of Teej, Haritalika Teej falls in the month of 'Bhado' and is held almost a month after Haryali Teej. Although the customs may differ in each state, the reason that unites women in all states is to seek the blessings of marital happiness and the life of their husbands.

The other two Teejs, Haryali Teej, and Kajari Teej are celebrated by women visiting their parents' houses. However, Hartalika Teej was celebrated when they returned to her in-laws' house. Most people wake up early on the day of this festival and wear new clothes, mostly saris. They also wear the best jewelry they own and receive many gifts from their parents and in-laws. The gifts are known by various names like Shrinjhara or Sindhare and include bangles, clothes, sindoor, etc. Many women also take care of the Hartalika Pooja and they gather near the temple or in the garden. Legend behind Hartalika Teej

According to legend, this day celebrates the union ceremony of Lord Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati. While he really loved her, he didn't know she existed. He fasted and prayed hard for years in the Himalayas to impress her. His efforts were noticed and his dedication appreciated. Shiva realized the extent of her love and married her. It is believed that the goddess gave birth to one hundred and eight children before she met Shiva. Therefore, on this day, the idol of the goddess is dressed in bright and beautiful colors and there is a procession where the idol is seated in a palanquin. Some devotees also worship the idol of Lord Shiva. The idols are usually made of sand and clay. In some states like Rajasthan, this procession includes animals like elephants and camels. During the Hartalika Teej prayer, sweets, powdered rice and flowers along with coins are offered as holy offerings. The holy katha tells the story of all women or single priests. In this narrative, all women focus on the well-being of their husbands - their husbands. Apart from prayer, women give special importance to 'shringar' or make-up. They try hard to look beautiful by wearing new clothes, wearing jewelry and adorning themselves with bangles and mehendi on their hands. They also wear a bindi on their forehead. The idol of Parvati is similarly dressed. The fast is usually broken after the woman has taken a bath and finished the evening prayer. This practice marks the end of this sacred time, which is done wholeheartedly in India.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: What is the typical length of a bridal dupatta?

Answer: The typical length of a bridal dupatta depends on the style of outfit it is worn with. Typically, bridal dupattas are longer than dupattas worn for everyday wear. It is usually long enough to be worn over the head and shoulders and hangs down the front and back of the body. The exact length will depend on the wearer’s height, clothing style, and desired draping effect.

Question 2: How to Wear Two Bridal Dupattas?

Answer: Bridal Dupatta is a long scarf often worn with traditional Indian clothing. If you are wearing a bridal outfit that includes a dupatta, you can drape it in a few different ways.

Here are some options:

The first dupatta can be worn over the head like a veil, with the ends hanging over the shoulders.

A second dupatta can be worn over the head and across the body, with one end hanging down the back and the other hanging forward. You can also drape the dupatta over your head and shoulders and down your back.

Another option is to drape one dupatta over your head and across your body and the other dupatta over your shoulders and arms.

Question 3: Which color is best for bridal dupatta?

Answer: The best color for your bridal dupatta depends on your personal preference and outfit style. Traditionally, red is associated with love, passion and marriage, making it a popular color for bridal dupattas. However, many brides choose dupattas in other colors such as gold, silver, pink or green. When choosing the color of your bridal dupatta, consider the overall color scheme of your outfit. For example, if you are wearing a red lehenga (a traditional Indian skirt), a red dupatta will go well with it and create a cohesive look. If you are wearing a gold or silver lehenga, a matching gold or silver dupatta will also look beautiful. Another important factor to consider when choosing your dupatta color is your skin tone. Some colors may look better on certain skin tones than others, so try out different colors to see which suits you best.
