Curly Hair Care Tips. Designerplanet

Kangana Ranaut

Curly hair tends be dryer, more brittle and prone to frizzing, so it requires more care than straight hair. Below are some tips on managing curly hair.

Limit shampooing your hair to no more than twice a week., shampooing strips your hair of its natural oils.

Use a conditioner every time after you shampoo to re-moisturize your hair.

Use a leave-in conditioner on your hair daily or every other day.

Use a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically geared towards curly hair.

Avoid using narrow toothed combs and brushes, use wide-toothed combs instead which has less of a tendency to cause breakage and frizzing.

To detangle your hair, in the shower start with your hair moist and conditioned (which will protect it from breakage), use your fingers to begin the untangling then finish with a wide toothed comb starting from the end going up finishing at the root of the hair. Then rinse your head with water and try to retain half of the conditioner in your hair. If you try to detangle your hair when it's dry, you will cause it to frizz.

Let your hair aid dry to reduce frizzing, avoid brushing and using a towel to dry your hair. If you need to your hair to dry quickly, blot your hair with a towel, but do not rub it.

Deep condition your hair once a month or more to re-moisturize your scalp and hair.

Use a small amount of styling product with moisturizing ingredient(s) in it to keep your hair from frizzing when your hair is still slightly moist and gently style with your finger. Apply the styling one section so that it is equally distributed.

Avoid playing with your hair or touching it as much as possible, the more friction that occurs on your hair will cause it to tangle and/or frizz.

Hair Coloring Tips

Hair Coloring Tips
  • Shampoo your hair properly and then condition them. Thereafter, wait for two days, to give the natural oils in your scalp time to resurface. This is an essential step to protect the scalp from chemical reactions and also would help your hair color to set better, giving you uniformed results overall.
  • On the day of hair color, you need to first arrange the toolkit for the hair coloring purpose. Put on an old t-shirt and collect some older towels and washcloths. Get some hair clips for sectioning your hair, a handy timer and a hand mirror, which will enable you to view the back of your head.
  • Section your hair so that you can handle you hair better, during the coloring process.
  • Before starting, make sure you read the instructions at least two times. Each of the coloring brands follows a definite style or process, so if you don't want to do a blunder, ensure that you read the instruction. Also, do not forget the strand test.

  • Put on the gloves and start the coloring process. If you are touching up the roots, be sure that this is the area that you target. You shouldn't be applying the color to the entire head as in the first application.

For those of you, who are coloring for the first time, start at the crown or at the nape of the neck. This because it is here that the natural hair color is darkest.

  • For the ends, apply hair color that is one level darker, without adding the developer. The color at the ends of the hair tends to fade faster than the rest, because the ends are porous and does not hold color.
  • Once you have applied the color, use a timer to keep track of the time. Often while reading a magazine, we completely forget to keep a track of the time. So, a time would be beneficial in this case.
  • After the specified time is over, rinse your hair thoroughly. Rinse, until the water runs clear.
  • Make sure to condition your hair properly. After the coloring process, hair becomes very vulnerable to damage.

Precautions
  • Always color your hair, when they are fully dry because color of damp and wet hair may get diluted later.
  • If your current hair color is darker than the next shade chosen, use a color remover to completely lose the old tint. However, they are effective on only artificial colors and not natural hair color.
  • For gray hair, use a shade darker than the shade of color used on the rest of the hair.
  • After coloring your hair, do not perm or straighten for several weeks.
  • If you go out in the sun or swim regularly, your hair color may wear off quickly. To avoid this, condition your hair regularly to negate the effects of summer heat and water.
  • If light-reddish blonde tones fade to orange color, you can use a little red-gold accent to give fashionable highlights.

Long styles work with any hair type - straight, wavy, or curly - but looks best if locks are medium-textured or thick. Skip the lengthy look if you have fine hair (it tends to go straggly) or a long, narrow face.

Short hairdos look great with all face shapes. It is best for fine or medium hair that's straight to slightly wavy. If you have curly hair, a lot of it, opt for a longer style - a short cut could look puffy.
Fringes: The length of your fringes influence the appearance of your forehead. Short fringes make the distance between eyebrows and hairline look longer than it is. Long ones make your forehead look shorter and some times wider. Fringes that are long at the temples and curve to a shorter length across your forehead will highlight your eyes and make cheekbones broader.

Partings: Worn straight  down the center add width to your brow. Slightly off-center parts and side parts make your forehead seem  narrower. Low side parts on your head broaden your forehead.

Hair pulled back: This style highlights your jaw line, elongates and thins your neck. Drawing your hair over the top of your ears will make your ears look smaller and closer to your head.

Fullness:  Fullness at the crown tends to make your face look longer. It adds width to your cheeks and brow. Fullness at your jaw line or below will broaden your lower face. Full hair brushed up and away from your face at your temples gives a lift from your face at your temples gives a lift to your cheekbones and makes your eyes look wider.

Ringlets: Wisps of wavy or curly hair that fall from a pulled -up hairstyle  soften the outer edge of your face and add length to your neck. Tendrils can soften the severity of a hair style pulled back from your face.

   TO CREATE CURLS

Wash hair and allow to air-dry until just damp. Starting at your forehead, wrap a two-inch section of hair around your second and third fingers, then slide fingers out and secure loop to scalp with a bobby pin. Proceed in this manner all over head. Either sleep with pin curls in place or leave them on until hair is completely dry. Then undo and tousle tresses with fingers.

For a curl free mane

Comb a styling lotion through damp hair and gather it into a tight, low ponytail at the nape. Twist tail loosely and wrap it around itself, securing ends to scalp with hair pins. Leave in until hair is no longer wet. Undo to reveal twist-free mane. (If your hair is short, follow the above steps, but slick hair back with a wide headband and skip the twist).
