Bengal cotton hand looms, synonymous with tant sarees (or tant, tat, tat) are some of the most popular saris worn by women in West Bengal and Bangladesh. Their light, airy texture makes them particularly suitable for hot and humid summers in the area. Tant saris are characterized by a thick border, decorative pallavas and are woven with various floral, paisley and other art forms.

Kasavu 


Kasavu from Kerala

Also known as Setu Sari, it was traditionally just a mundu (dhoti), a blouse and a stole that went beyond the blouse. Many old women still survive this style. The Kasavu saree is a modern version and has a thick golden border, which is woven with real gold threads. However, keeping time in mind, it is diversified to include colors and artificial threads.

Sambalpuri is a traditional handmade sari, which is a delicate weave of various techniques. The threads are dyed before they are woven, so that their saturated color never fades.


Pataani Sarees from Maharashtra

Bandhani saree

The name of the sari comes from the word "bandana", which means "relation." It refers to the tie and dye process that makes this saree. Both Gujarat and Rajasthan are known for saree bandhani. However, Khatri weavers in Gujarat are called pioneers. They practice this art till date.


Muga Sarees

 Muga silk saris from Assam are made from special silk produced by larvae, which feed mainly on two special leaves. The silk obtained from these larvae is known to be the best. It is glossy and very durable. In fact, the golden threads of Mugi can only be found in Assam.
