Tulsi Vivah 2024: Date, Puja Muhurat, Rituals, and Significance of This Sacred Festival

Tulsi Marriage 2024 Tulsi Vivah is the wedding of the Tulsi plant (Holy Basil) and the Hindu god Vishnu and his avatar, Krishna.

Tulsi vivah is celebrated on Dwadashi (12th) of Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) during the month of Kartik as per Hindu calendar. This ritual can be observed any time from Prabodhini Ekadashi (11th) to Kartik Poornima. In some places, it is celebrated for five days until the end of the full moon of the month of Kartik. Tulsi vivah marks the end of the monsoon season and the beginning of the Hindu wedding season. The actual date of Tulsi vivah varies from region to region. Tulsi vivah puja is an event observed by married women across India for the well-being of their husbands and families. The Tulsi plant is considered by Hindus and Tulsi herself is believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Mahalakshmi, formerly born as 'Vrinda'. Young women pray to Goddess Lakshmi with complete devotion to seek marital happiness. Tulsi vivah ritual is also observed by young unmarried women to get a good husband. Rituals of Tulsi vivah: The marriage ceremony of Tulsi and Lord Krishna is very similar to a traditional Hindu wedding. The ritual is observed in various temples. However, you can easily perform Tulsi vivah at home. Observers of Tulsi vivah must maintain fasting until the evening when the actual ceremony begins.

When is Tulsi Vivah 2024?

Tulsi Vivah is celebrated on Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in Kartik and coincides with Devuthani Ekadashi, marking the end of Lord Vishnu's four-month Yoga Nidra. Ekadashi Titi 2024 begins at 6:54 PM on November 11 and ends at 7:28 PM on November 12, making November 12 the main day to observe Tulsi Viva. If required, you can also perform rituals at Vaikuntha Chaturdashi.

Tulsi Vivah Rituals and Observances

On the day of Tulsi Vivah, devotees observe fast and perform puja rituals in honor of Tulsi and Lord Shaligram. Married women often fast and perform rituals while praying for the happiness and well-being of their families. The ceremony is traditionally performed in a temple or at home.

Steps to perform Tulsi Vivah:

1. Morning preparation: Start by taking a ritual bath and vowing to observe the fast. Lord Vishnu then consciously awakens by chanting mantras, blowing conch shells, and ringing bells.

2. Evening Puja: At dusk, light diyas are spread around the house and places of worship. Tulsi is decorated with 16 items representing traditional offerings before beginning the marriage ceremony with Lord Shaligram. Tulsi Vivah is celebrated with devotion and reverence as it symbolizes the union of divine powers and invites divine blessings for a prosperous and harmonious family life.
