Rama Ekadashi 2024: Considered one of the most auspicious Ekadashi in Hindu tradition, Rama Ekadashi falls on the 11th day of the month of Kartik during the Krishna Paksha period of the Hindu calendar. It is observed four days before Diwali (October 31 this year) and is also known as Rambha Ekadashi or Kartik Krishna Ekadashi. One Rama Ekadashi vrat is equal to one hundred Rajasuya Yagyas or one thousand Ashvamedha Yagyas. 

Rama Ekadashi Puja ritual 

Devotees perform sexual baths in the early morning and then dress up for the day. During Rama Ekadashi pooja, they emphasize on unwavering devotion and devotion. Observing the fast and promising not to do anything wrong is an important part of the ritual.

Foods to avoid during Ram Ekadashi Vrat 

Here are some foods that you should not consume during Ram Ekadashi Vrat. 

Food Grains, cereals and pulses (beets) should be kept away from Ekadashi. 

The flavor can be used in cooking, but mustard seeds should be avoided. 

Asafoetida powder cannot be used because it contains grains. All things considered, it can be utilized uniquely in Ekadashi. 

Cooking with grains should also be avoided. For example, stay away from the taste of brushing your hands with the ghee and chapati powder used to bake the puri. 

You cannot also consume Vishnuprasadam if it contains the above taboo foods. However, such prasadam is taken on the next day.

How is Jivitputrika celebrated?


Jitiya puja is also known as “Jivitputrika Vrat” or “Jiutiya.Jitiya is an important festival of married Nepalese women from Mithilanchal and Tharu women of all castes. Jitiya vrata is performed for the well-being and long life of your children. It is performed at Aswin Krishna Ashtmi usually during the time of Pradosh.The women keep a Nirjala fast for the well-being of her children. The Jivitputrika Vrat is celebrated from the Saptami to the Navami of the Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month.

Importance and Law: 

It is believed that an eagle and a zorra who lived in a jungle near the Narmada River were friends. One day, several women came to perform the puja and the day. The too wanted to observe the Vrat. But the fox could not control his hambre. Therefore, she is there for food. On the other hand, the eagle observed the day with devotion. As a result, kids born to the  Fox murieron few days after birth. Meanwhile, the descendants of Eagle were blessed with a long life. According to another story, Jimutavahana was a kind king of Gandharva. Jimutvanhan handed over his kingdom to his brothers and went to the woods to serve his priest. He would spend time taking care of his priest. One day I saw an old woman in mourning. When asking, she says that she belonged to a family of snakes (Nagvanshaki) and that she only had a child. But due to an oath, every day a snake is offered to Garuda as food and morning is the opportunity for his son to convert into his food.


 Jimutavahana consoled him and promised that he would protect his son from Garuda. He decides to settle on the lecho de rocas as food for Garuda. Later, Garuda arrived and attacked the Jimutvahana with the nails. Garuda was surprised that Jimutavahana did not respond. Garuda asked for his identity. Jimutavahan described the entire scene. Garuda was pleased with the courage and benevolence of Jimutvahana. He promised Jimutavahana not to accept any sacrifice of the serpents. Jimutvahana saves the raza of the serpientes. Since then, the day has been observed for the good life of children and a long life. Jivitputrika Vrat shows el amor y el affection de las madres hacia sus hijos. The mother keeps a strict schedule, without a drop of water for the prosperity of her children.

Rituals/ Celebrations: 

Jivitptrika Vrat is celebrated for three days, from the seventh to the ninth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin. The first day is called Nahai-Khai. The mother eats food only after taking a bath. On this day, all mothers who have passed away in the family are also honored. The second day is called Khur-Jitiya or Jivitputerka day. Strict fasting is done without water which is also called dry fasting. Jitiya is a red and yellow thread worn by fasting mothers. Threads are removed when damaged. The fat ends on the third day with Parana. Various dishes and special delicacies called Jhor Bhaat or Curry- Rice, Noni saag and Madua Roti are prepared. In western Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Nepal, Parana is made with Noni ka saag, Maruwa roti and vegetable soup with zucchini. The Vrata is difficult because the ritual has to be performed without wasting even a little water.
