Tulsi vivah is celebrated on Dwadashi (12th) of Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) during the month of Kartik as per Hindu calendar. This ritual can be observed any time from Prabodhini Ekadashi (11th) to Kartik Poornima. In some places, it is celebrated for five days until the end of the full moon of the month of Kartik. When is Tulsi Vivah 2024? 


Tulsi Vivah is celebrated on Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in Kartik and coincides with Devuthani Ekadashi, marking the end of Lord Vishnu's four-month Yoga Nidra. Ekadashi Titi 2024 begins at 6:54 PM on November 11 and ends at 7:28 PM on November 12, making November 12 the main day to observe Tulsi Viva. On the day of Tulsi Vivah, devotees observe fast and perform puja rituals in honor of Tulsi and Lord Shaligram. Married women often fast and perform rituals while praying for the happiness and well-being of their families. The ceremony is traditionally performed in a temple or at home.


Steps to perform Tulsi Vivah: 


1. Morning preparation: Start by taking a ritual bath and vowing to observe the fast. Lord Vishnu then consciously awakens by chanting mantras, blowing conch shells, and ringing bells. 

2. Evening Puja: At dusk, light diyas are spread around the house and places of worship. Tulsi is decorated with 16 items representing traditional offerings before beginning the marriage ceremony with Lord Shaligram. Tulsi Vivah is celebrated with devotion and reverence as it symbolizes the union of divine powers and invites divine blessings for a prosperous and harmonious family life.

Ahoi Ashtami is a Hindu festival celebrated mainly by mothers for the well-being of their children.It is observed on the Ashtami titi of Krishna Paksha during the month of Kartik in the Hindu calendar and coincides with the month of Ashwin for Amanta followers. Ahoi Ashtami falls between mid-October and November in the Gregorian calendar and occurs eight days before Diwali and four days after Karwa Chauth.Ahoi Ashtami, a deeply revered Hindu festival, will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24, 2024. Traditionally, this is a day when mothers fast from dawn to dusk for the well-being of their children. Historically, fasting was observed for the benefit of sons, but now fasting is observed for the well-being of all children, including daughters. The fast is broken in the evening after seeing the stars in the sky, but some women wait for the moon, but on Ahoy Ashtami, it rises late at night, making it easy for the moon to rise.

Puja Items for Ahoi Ashtami

To observe the Ahoi Ashtami puja, specific puja materials are required to complete the puja:


Ahoi Mata’s image: Whether drawing or idol of Goddess on the wall or framed/printed.

Kalash: Filled small brass or copper pot with water and coconut over it.

Coconut: Covered with red cloth and kept atop the Kalash.

Roli (red vermilion powder): Apply a tilak on the forehead and the image of Goddess Ahoi.

Akshat (unbroken rice): Offer the goddess.

Flowers: Mostly marigold, to present to Ahoi Mata.

Fruits: Bananas, pomegranates, and other seasonal fruits are required.

Sweets: Classic sweets like kheer, puris, and other delicacies, especially those that children love.

Incense Sticks (Agarbatti) and Camphor: These are used to cleanse the surroundings during puja.

Diya (Lamp): To offer the goddess and to lighten the environment.

Thread: To tie a red or yellow sacred thread during puja.

Do’s and Don’ts of Ahoi Asthami Vrat

For every Hindu ritual, there are some do’s and don’ts specified to follow the guidelines:


Bypass sleeping on the day of vrat.

Don’t stitch anything on Ahoi Ashtami.

On this day, people avoid black, blue, or white colours.

Make only sattvic food to offer, like bhog prasad.

Bypass to consume garlic and ginger as they are tamasic foods.

You can use brass, bronze, silver, and gold utensils while performing puja rituals.

You can use an earthen pot made of clay like a Karwa while performing the puja.

Ideally, parents should perform the puja along with their children.

Women must wear a silver garland that depicts Syau Mata for the puja.

Keep some money near the Goddess as a Dakshina, along with sweets and grains.

Grazing the cows should happen after completing all the rituals.
